I recently learned that Hermann Hesse, author of "Siddhartha" and winner of the pulitzer prize for literature in 1946, was also a poet. Here is one of my favorites of his so far:
"Love Song"
Hermann Hesse
I wish I were a flower,
And you were just walking by,
And picked me as your own,
And held me captive in your hand.
Or I wish I were red wine,
And you would drink my sweetness,
And take me deep inside yourself,
Both you and I would be healed.
